Liudong Xing received her PhD degree in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, in 2002. She is currently a Commonwealth Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Massachusetts (UMass) Dartmouth. Her research focuses on reliability modeling, analysis and optimization of complex systems and networks.
Prof. Xing has received multiple awards for teaching and research and has co-authored eleven award-winning papers. She was an IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer (2024–2025). In 2025, she was recognized as a Star in Networking and Communications by N2Women and received the IEEE ComSoc IoT-AHSN Technical Achievement and Recognition Award. She has served on the editorial boards of several leading journals in her field. She has also served as program or publication committee chair, co-chair, vice-chair for multiple international conferences, and technical program committee member for numerous workshops and conferences.
Prof. Xing has been a Fellow of The International Society of Engineering Asset Management since 2019. According to Elsevier/Stanford University List, she has been named among the World Top 2% Scientists since 2020. According to ScholarGPS, she was named a Highly Ranked Scholar and placed in the Top 0.01% of all scholars in specialties of Reliability Engineering worldwide. According to Research.com, she was named among the Best Scientists in Computer Science in the world and USA.
