About

Dr. Catherine Neto received a B.S. degree in chemistry from Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1983 and a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from Brown University in 1988. She was a postdoctoral researcher at Brown University from 1988 to 1991. She joined the faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UMass Dartmouth as an Assistant Professor in 2001, was promoted to Professor in 2013, and served as the Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry from 2014 to 2022. Dr. Neto is currently a professor and Director of UMass Cranberry Health Research Center. Her research mainly focuses on the chemistry of biologically active natural products; the mechanisms of anticancer, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities of flavonoids and triterpenoids from cranberry and other fruits; functional food factors and nutrition; isolation and structure elucidation of natural products; and the development of secondary metabolites in Vaccinium species.
