About

Dr. Delargy is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Fisheries Oceanography, within the School for Marine and Fisheries Technology (SMAST), within the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. His expertise is in quantitative fishery assessment and fish survey data, particularly on topics such as catch efficiency, survey design, and stock assessment methods. Much of his research has focused on scallops, but he has also researched lobsters, crabs, groundfish, whelk, fishing gear impacts, benthic community ecology, offshore wind development impacts on fisheries and benthic communities, and coral reef fisheries. His research has always involved collaboration with fishing industries, and he is experienced at communication with non-technical personnel. He is currently a senior academic working closely with Kevin Stokesbury’s laboratory group, and he helps lead a large team of staff and students working on a diverse range of fishery issues, across many grants. The group operates various highly successful fishery-independent surveys, often using cameras to reduce environmental impacts when compared to more traditional survey gears. He is a Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI on several grants. He is building a strong publication and grant capture record, he supervises students, he is co-Chair of the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES) scallop working group (WGScallop), and he has been appointed to three further external expert groups.
