Jimi is a leader in the field of Medical Laboratory Science, serving as Program Director and Associate Teaching Professor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, as well as co-Coordinator for the online MLT to MLS program. Jimi has taught at UMass Dartmouth for ten years and is a proud alumnus of UMASS Dartmouth; he holds both a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science and a Master of Science in Biotechnology/Bioengineering from the institution. Recently, Jimi completed his PhD from UMASS Boston, focusing on critical issues of health inequities and healthcare access within the LGBTQ+ community—a topic he passionately advocates for. With a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, Jimi actively participates in multiple committees across academic and professional organizations. His extensive experience includes serving as the Lead Medical Technologist at MIT where he oversaw microbiology and Point of Care operations and ensured compliance with CAP and Joint Commission accreditation standards. Jimi holds national and local memberships with the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) and American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP). He has chaired ASCLS's Diversity Advocacy Council and was president of ASCLS Central New England. He contributes as a reviewer for NAACLS self-studies and is a site visitor. Additionally, Jimi serves on the NAACLS RCAP committee and volunteers as a Laboratory Inspector for CAP. His scholarly contributions include authoring chapters for chemistry and microbiology textbooks and publishing several peer-reviewed manuscripts. He frequently presents at conferences focused on laboratory science and education.
