HONG LIU (Senior Member, IEEE) is a Commonwealth Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where she leads the Internet of Things Security laboratory. She earned her B.S. with Honors in dual major of Computer Science and Mathematics and an M.S. in Computer Science from Hefei Polytechnic University in 1982 and 1984, respectively. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from New York University (NYU) School of Engineering in 1990, where her dissertation on Internet Design won the Brownstein Doctoral Research Award. Dr. Liu's research focuses on computer networks, cyber-physical systems, and network security with funding from NSF, DoD, and other agencies. She has published extensively with students and collaborators in refereed journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. She has received multiple honors, including Best Paper Awards at 2015 IEEE Symposium on Technologies for Homeland Security (IEEE HST2015) and 2025 IEEE IX World Engineering Education Conference (IEEE EDUNINE2025), 2010 Outstanding Women Award, and 2023 UMass Dartmouth Teacher of the Year Award. Prof. Liu serves on the Cyber Security Education and Training Consortium.
