Abstract
The guide serves as a resource on navigating the topics of gentrification and displacement in the context of brownfields redevelopment. Understanding who
ultimately benefits from brownfields redevelopment can result in more equitable development decisions and is a crucial component of mitigating involuntary
displacement. Our approach to this guide acknowledges the history of racialized land use decisions and property ownership in the United States that have had lasting and
ongoing disparate impacts for people of color. Our aim is to equip community brownfield practitioners with the knowledge to navigate gentrification and displacement
research and practice so they can mitigate unwanted displacement of residents and businesses.
