Abstract
The increase in electric rates is largely the result of inadequate access to the natural gas that has become the fuel of choice for the New England region's electricity generators. Since 2000, our reliance on natural gas has more than tripled as oil and coal-fired plants were taken off-line and only partially replaced, according to our regional grid operator, ISO New England.
