Abstract
The crystal structure of the ‘magic’ mushroom natural product baeocystin is reported for the first time. The title compound, baeocystin or 4-phosphorÂyloxy-N-methylÂtryptamine systematic name: 3-[2-(methylazaniumyl)ethyl]-1H-indol-4-yl hydrogen phosphate, C11H15N2O4P, has a single zwitterionic molÂecule in the asymmetric unit. The molÂecule has an intraÂmolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bond between the ammonium cation and the hydroÂphosphate anion. In the crystal, the molÂecules are linked by N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network.
