Abstract
This special issue of CiSE offers readers a taste of the range of advances enabled by supercomputing. The articles feature applications in astrophysics, engine simulations, and drug discovery while highlighting an array of supercomputing tools---from fundamental algorithms to innovative hardware and cloud computing.
