Abstract
We propose an optical subband coding scheme, which consists of subband decomposition and reconstruction using multichannel spatial filtering. The undersampled subband signals may be considered as a multiresolution representation. A passband signal can be converted down to a lowpass signal through a combination of undersampling and lowpass filtering. Conversely, a lowpass signal can be shifted up to a bandpass signal using a combination of oversampling and bandpass filtering.
