Abstract
I am exploring womanhood through a “quotidian” lens, representing my body and emotions from another woman's perspective. My influences range from realist and impressionist painters such as Ilya Repin, Childe Hassam, Joaquín Sorolla, and Ann Gale, who explored their everyday lives and surroundings, reflecting the time and place of their existence, to Yayoi Kusama, a conceptual artist who emphatically expresses her experiences through installation so that audiences can interact and immerse themselves in her mental state. I primarily focus on the figure as a starting point to focus on the many aspects of my identity, exploring these facets through drawings and paintings observed from life. These images are then coupled with pun-filled phrases associated with childhood, such as nursery rhymes, proverbs, and fairytales, to give humor and multidimensionality to one’s character.
