Abstract

Beehives. Electronic systems. Environmental conditions Beehives -- Design and construction Remote Sensing
This thesis explores the current available research into Precision Beekeeping, and proposes an electronic system for remotely monitoring the health of a honeybee hive. Apiarists benefit from knowing the state of a colony but gaining the information through a traditional inspection negatively impact the health and honey production of the hive. A survey of current literature relating colony state to environmental measurements and data analysis methods along with current available technology was executed to determine the most effective means of calculating honeybee health. An electronic system for measuring the interior environmental conditions of a Langstroth bee hive was designed. A set of printed circuit boards to collect and convey data were laid out. A web application was created to display the information collected by the system.
