Abstract

Light in art. Painting -- Technique
The paintings discussed in this document are records of a search for a personalized balance of abstraction and representation. The result is a model of consciousness that balances the time‐bound material aspects of existence with the non‐material, the non‐narrative and the atemporal in our lives. Roughly speaking, representational pictorial imagery serves to communicate the former, and abstract pictorial elements represent the latter. Emphasis is placed on strong natural light because of its inherent ability to act in both spheres and to unify them, as well as because of my childhood and early spiritual education. Aspects such as identity, ego and culture are de‐emphasized along with indicators of a narrative or specific time in order to strike a personal balance and present a contemporary recalibration of consciousness that isequally attuned to the abstract.
