Abstract

Philosophy of nature. Identity (Philosophical concept) Identity (Psychology) Philosophy of nature
Wandering the untamed woods and swamps on my grandfather’s land, my inner self was released from the confines of social conformity; it was pulled into the miniature forest of pond life under the reflection of the sky in the water; it expanded up into the clouds overhead; it rushed above the pine trees across the land on the wind. These experiences cultivated independent thought and centeredness. With my work, I seek to melt identity into a surrounding experience – to call up the feeling of transcendence and transparency that can be realized in un-socialized wild places. With mesmerizing video and mixed media installations, I hope with a gentle nudge to inspire reverence for wilderness, preserving the elixir that nourishes the resilient, percipient.
