Abstract
In this thesis, I will summarize how the Effusion series was produced, as well as examining the Eastern and Western philosophical concepts behind it. I will show what the aesthetic theories of Chuang Tzu, the aura theory of Walter Benjamin, the poetic space of Gaston Bachelard, and the New Aesthetics of Gernot Bohme, have in common in relation to the concept of Qi. In Taoist philosophy, Qi is the fundamental energy of life, all things come from and are connected through it. The aesthetic space of the Effusion series is a metaphor for this interconnectedness through Qi, and the creation of the work is method for me to pursue harmonization of my inner self with the Qi of universe.
