Abstract

Mobile apps -- Development. Application software -- Development
We are living on a mobile device era, where people use mobile devices not just for communication but also for productivity and entertainment. Currently, there are millions of apps available for download. Almost every mobile app in the market offers a push notification service to provide relevant information to the user. The most common goal when using push notifications is to bring the users back into the app, thus increasing users' engagement and retention rates. The main advantage for apps when using push notifications is that users don't need to be actively using the app to receive a push notification, therefore they can be reached at any time. This has been the main reason why push notifications are the preferred media to present important information to the user. Nowadays, users can receive push notification only through an installed app. There are different services in the market available for developers to manage push notifications. However, there is not a service that allows real-time communication using push notification between different apps. The principal purpose of this thesis is to allow real-time communication, via push notifications, between apps that are not installed in the same device. To accomplish this, I have designed and implemented a service to share push notification information between different apps installed on different devices.
