Abstract

Plates (Tableware) in art. Furniture in art. Pottery.
As an artist and person I need structure and consistency, yet I am drawn to chaos and the uncertain. I combine the uncertainty of ceramics with the consistency of wood in furniture to instill a feeling of balance and assurance I strive for myself. By integrating furniture with functional ceramics to further explore belonging, I create a place I fit into a world where I have no connections tied by blood. My use of domestic objects and their disquieted patterns are in reference to a displaced environment that I find reliable and not foreign. My past, present, and future are unknown to me. I don't know where I came from; I cannot differentiate what is genetic vs. what is learned, or in general who I am. Most of the questions I have will never be answered or have a conclusion, I try to hide them, pack them away and try to forget they are there. That doesn't quite work out so well in the end. I know who I am, according to how my parents raised me. That much I am certain of. I make to remember, honor, revisit, and instill a sense of belonging that I have not always felt.
