Abstract
As the original immigration location and public education state, Massachusetts should fulfill the state-fitted policy and historical commitments with regards to immigration. This project argues that undocumented high school students face economic, political and cultural obstacles preventing access to higher education. Currently, the state of Massachusetts does not extend financial assistance for higher education to undocumented students. This project analyzes the educational policy governing undocumented students and contextualizes unequal access of undocumented students in terms of the broader relationship between higher education and labor. This project includes an examination of obstacles of exclusionary politics of curriculum, high stakes testing and tuition barriers and advocates policy change for Massachusetts on the basis of ethics, politics, economy and culture. In addition, this project responds to the rising xenophobia and ongoing exclusionary state support for Massachusetts most vulnerable populations.
