Abstract
Providing service classes via a scalable Quality of Service (QoS) architecture is an important challenge in the future Internet. The current Differentiated Service (DiffServ) architecture has defined a set of traffic control components for providing various service classes and a policy framework to regulate service access, but the scalable mechanism to ensure this service access and service performance is still open for study. This paper presents a novel approach for Measurement-Based Admission Control (MBAC). We use the dropping behavior that a traffic class encounters as the measurement for admission decisions. By applying network-level dropping measurement, we present a scalable admission control scheme that does not require core node and per-flow management.
