Abstract
We have shown recently that amplitude modulated phase only correlators are more powerful in terms of discrimination than the classical phase only filter. However, the expensive hardware and highly accurate alignment requirement of the phase only filter has allowed only limited application of phase only filter. The joint transform set up is much more flexible and employs a simple setup. In this work, for the first time in the literature, we propose the amplitude modulated phase only joint transform correlator. In this set up the AMPOF is realized in the JFT set up. Thus both the optimality of AMPOF and ease of implementation of the JFT setup are both achieved in the newly proposed filter, which may increase its application in automatic target recognition.
