Abstract
Acoustics graduate education and research opportunities at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth are primarily in the College of Engineering with a strong focus in Electrical Engineering and its applications. Faculty offer graduate and upper level undergraduate courses associated with the Bachelors, Master and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, capstone projects, theses, and dissertation in acoustic related studies. Areas of expertise and courses include signal and array processing, sonar, communications, detection and estimation, transduction, sensors and arrays, underwater acoustics and medical ultrasonics. Complimentary offerings in the areas of electromagnetics, radar, RF phonics, optics, and electronics offer students a broad education opportunity in applied science. Much of the research at UMass Dartmouth has been marine focused for over three decades, and the campus includes unique facilities including a large Underwater Acoustic Calibration Test Tank, School for Marine Science and Technology, ocean water access, and Unmanned Underwater Vehicles that support our projects. The Office of Naval Research is our largest sponsor of research and many of the alumni go on to work at US Navy laboratories, non-profit research centers, industry and local companies focusing on acoustic technology.
