Abstract
Explores issues related to the loss of democracy, neoliberalism, and the problems of globalization and their relevance to education in the United States, Britain and other countries today. The symposium challenges hegemonic theories regarding how schooling and teacher education function to reproduce existing society with their attendant patterns of economic and social inequalities. It provides comprehensive analyses of issues related to the struggle against the forces of imperial-induced privatization, not just in education, but in all of social life (McLaren & Mashood, 2002) through the radical democratizing forces of critical pedagogy.
